World News Day is a global campaign, organized by The Canadian Journalism Foundation (CJF) and WAN-IFRA’s World Editors Forum (WEF), to amplify the power and impact of fact-based journalism. This year’s campaign’s central message is ‘Journalism Makes a Difference and is worth promoting and defending‘.
Celebrated on September 28th, this day is an opportunity for all media organizations to highlight the impact of their journalism on a global stage.
‘World News Day, involving more than 500 newsrooms, is a global initiative aimed at improving media literacy and audience engagement. We include examples of how lives are improved when journalists tell a story. We showcase the efforts of small newsrooms as they represent the importance of community. We underpin all our work with the belief that access to information is a human right’
– David Walmsley Founder, World News Day, Immediate Past Chair, The Canadian Journalism Foundation & Editor-in-Chief, The Globe and Mail.
At Athens Technology Center, we are honored to be part of World News Day 2022 and share the importance of fact-based journalism. As we are developing technologies against disinformation since 2010, and we are actively engaged in the EU’s Code of Practice on Disinformation, we are very proud to keep supporting publishers, news agencies, and other stakeholders of the European media sector, with the appropriate technological means to counter disinformation.
