FactCheck Mongolia, an alliance of more than 20 Mongolian media organizations, will use Truly Media to deal with information disorder phenomena. Truly Media is a collaborative platform that Athens Technology Center (ATC, a leading Greek ICT solutions provider for the media industry) and Deutsche Welle (DW, Germany’s international public service broadcaster) developed to support the collaborative verification of social media content.
Organized by Deutsche Welle Akademie, and coordinated on location by the Mongolian Center for Investigative Reporters, Fact Check Mongolia was launched in early September 2019. It brings together users coming from more than 20 media organizations ranging from radio, magazines and newspapers to television providers. Together, they will collaboratively analyze and verify digital information, especially in the run-up to the upcoming 2020 elections. Participating journalists will use Truly Media, supplied by DW Innovation and ATC’s innovation Lab (iLab), in their verification efforts.
In light of this new agreement, Nikos Sarris, Head of ATC’s Innovation Lab noted: “Truly Media incorporates ATC’s 15+ years of experience in the media and news industry. We are more than proud for this new partnership, mainly because it proves that media organizations have stepped up their efforts to fight disinformation on a global scale.”
In addition, Jochen Spangenberg, Deputy Head of the Research & Cooperation Unit of Deutsche Welle (DW) and DW’s project manager for Truly Media, stressed: “We are very proud that we can support such activities, and that Truly Media is being used in more and more regions of the world to help journalists in their verification and fact-checking efforts, thereby supporting democracy.”
With Truly Media, media professionals as well as human rights organizations can exploit a set of advanced digital tools for verifying news (text, images or videos) as they are shared directly in social media, in real time, allowing their users to cooperate across organizational boundaries, time zones and geographic regions.
